Lifecycle Solutions Expands Recycling Services to Include Rare Earth Magnets

Lifecycle Solutions is proud to announce the expansion of its recycling program to include rare earth magnets sourced from industrial, post-industrial, automotive and electronic equipment. This move reinforces the company’s commitment to responsible materials recovery and supporting a more sustainable technology ecosystem.

Rare earth magnets — particularly neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) types — are critical components in many modern machines and devices. They are found in everything from hard disk drives, flat screen display devices, e-scooter and e-bikes, automotive components  and wind turbine generators to medical imaging equipment, and represent valuable, finite materials that are historically difficult to recycle.

What We’re Taking

Lifecycle Solutions will now accept both equipment containing rare earth magnets and NdFeB rare earth magnets recovered from equipment including:

  • Hard drives and data storage units
  • LCD and LED flat display devices
  • Sound bars
  • Automotive equipment including speakers, power steering pumps, aircon pumps with freon removed, drive motors
  • Wind turbines
  • Industrial electric motors
  • Recovered e-motors
  • Medical equipment and precision instruments
  • Robotic Manipulators
  • Magnetic separators

Why Rare Earth Magnets Matter

Rare earth elements such as neodymium, dysprosium and praseodymium  are essential for producing the strongest permanent magnets available. These magnets enable high efficiency and compact designs in:

  • Electric motors and generators
  • Renewable energy systems
  • Advanced medical devices such as MRI machines
  • Aerospace and robotics applications

Despite their importance, rare earth elements are challenging to extract and refine, and global supply chains remain susceptible to environmental and geopolitical pressures. Recycling existing magnets helps reduce the need for new mining, minimizes waste, and captures high-value materials that would otherwise be lost.

Our Recycling Approach

Lifecycle Solutions uses industry-grade processing techniques to safely separate, extract and prepare rare earth materials for reuse or re-manufacture. This includes:

  • Disassembly of equipment to retrieve intact magnets
  • Sorting and classification by type and composition
  • Storage and processing appropriate for downstream refinement with Lifecycle Solutions’ partner Hypromag USA

Recovered materials may be re-introduced into manufacturing supply chains — reducing environmental footprint and supporting the circular economy.

Supporting a Circular and Sustainable Future

“As demand for advanced technologies continues to grow, so does the need for sustainable materials management,” said Graham Davy, CEO at Lifecycle Solutions. “By accepting equipment containing rare earth magnets, we help keep these precious resources in use and out of landfill — while supporting industries that rely on them.”

How to Deliver Materials

Suppliers, manufacturers and facilities with eligible rare earth equipment containing rare earth magnets and recovered rare earth magnets  can contact Lifecycle Solutions to arrange delivery and assessment. For more information, visit https://lifecycle.solutions/services/recycling/

Intelligent Lifecycle solutions acquires ISS

We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of Intelligent Storage Solutions Ltd (ISS) by Intelligent Lifecycle Solutions Ltd (ILS).

ISS is a leader in the repair, rectification and recycling of disk drives thus maximising the asset recovery value and the delivery of class leading data destruction services. This sale will enable the significant development of the business both locally and internationally.

ISS has seen exciting growth in its business in recent times and this investment enables that to continue and develop further. ISS will continue to trade and serve its customers in exactly the same way with no changes to the team or management.

Jon Godfrey – Director of ILS said “we are delighted to welcome ISS and the team to our business and we are excited to be contributing to their on-going successes”.

Mark Wallace – CEO of ISS added “it’s a pleasure for us to be joining the team at ILS who we feel can best take ISS to the next level. Our technology and development plans enable us to grow and develop opportunities in new markets.

An Outstanding Year

The ILS team have completed an incredible year.  Intelligent Storage Solutions (ISS) has been integrated and the businesses are operating very successfully together.  ISS and ILS systems have been integrated including common finance and CRM and the new team is working extremely well together.  All of the existing ISS team have remained with the business and are enjoying a set of new and fresh challenges.

In the first six months together ISS has doubled its size with several major long term contracts and has improved both service levels and efficiency.  The team are planning new facilities in Scotland and in the USA.

As well as investment in new clients and contracts, ILS has been supporting the development of new technology and an announcement will be made shortly regarding the launch.  Jon Godfrey – Director of ILS said “it’s truly been an incredible year. We’ve all worked extremely hard and the team have achieved outstanding results.  We have a team of great people and really it’s thanks to them.”
